British Schools Floor and Vault Finals

Moffat Academy’s Under 11 girls gymnastics team travelled down to Stoke on Trent on Friday to represent Scotland in the British Schools Floor and Vault finals.  The girls had to qualify for the event and were up against the 11 best teams from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  The team of Morgan Todd, Skye Beveridge, Honey McMinn, Lorna Minto and Ivanna Davis-Grierson were in the first round of competition, early on the Saturday morning.  The girls put in fantastic performances on both floor and vault in what was a very high level of competition.  In the end they narrowly missed out on a medal by 0.22 to be placed fourth.  This is the highest result a Primary team from Scotland has ever achieved at the National Finals, so an amazing achievement.  Mrs Macfarlane, Depute Head Teacher, who travelled down to the finals with the girls said, “The girls were fantastic!  They had trained very hard for this event and their dedication and effort certainly showed on the day.  I’d like to take this opportunity to thank their families for supporting them at the competition, Rachael Hewitt and Hayley Powell for working with them and Calum Graham for all his support.”
